Hey guys, welcome back to plug in for Player 4.
Where are you the viewer are the Player 4?
And today I'm here with I'm Mark these gentlemen.
We're gentlemen's. Gentlemen's.
Gentleman's. We're gentleman or man's and
we're gentle. We're gentleman's, yeah.
Yeah, all. Right.
I guess this is now a now. I guess this is a fucking
musical, not a podcast anymore. Didn't you know that the world
is shit and everything's on fire?
Man, they can't look for. No, not this time of year.
You ever know? Yeah, No.
It's always me when I host these episodes of fiction, yeah.
You got to deal with our bullshit.
I'm going to deal with Mark's bullshit.
Yeah. I barely said 4 words.
I mean, that's more than 4 words in that sentence.
You think? Yeah, because I don't.
Know I barely, that's syllables. I barely said 4 words.
Yeah, that's 4 words. We're a minute and 1/2 in.
Yeah. Like.
I starts carrying the syllables. What?
He goes to count the words Classic.
All right. Always amaze myself how quickly
I can make one of you 2 laugh at the start of the episode.
It's always great. I-beam with pride every time.
Oh, I'm sure you do. Pride and self affirmation it's
great could do it's what sustains me I'm.
So laughing about. It barely.
Wait a minute. Those are syllables and that
words. Oh my fucking God.
Well, Plank, I'm happy that you're getting a kick out of
this. Yeah.
To make sense of what we said about Thank you Plank the other
episode Ethan's got a piece of 2 by 4 with the face of Plank from
Ed, Ed and Eddie on it in Sharpie Park I.
Stole it from work. We have no idea where it came
from. And he just sits there judging.
Yeah, it's silent solitude. He sometimes floats, but that's
neither here nor there. Yeah, no.
We just don't talk about it. Yeah, we don't acknowledge it
normally. It just happens.
All right, So what have you 2 been up to?
Nope. Nope.
Nope. Go on, what?
The fuck was that? I was going to talk, but Nope,
we ducked. I was like, I'm going to talk
now that did Mark talk? Nope, gone.
Go ahead, do it. Work up the courage again,
Ginger. Fuck, you were dead for a whole
week. I'm still bad.
I'm. Still pissed off that you died.
OK, I'm gonna go with predictions.
I'm gonna have started off by now.
It's a video game and it's an RP.
It's literally called off the game if you go on the website.
OK? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
It's about like very confused. It's a little sick.
It's basically the bug brand, but it's a game.
OK, And I guess this RPG came out like 12 years ago or so.
Oh shit. And it just got boarded to
Steam. Oh, OK.
And I'm not one for RPGs, but like the the way because it's
it's weird. It's like distorted.
I'm going to have to show you guys the trailer.
But yeah, it's it's it's fucking insane.
Just, and I didn't, apparently I watched Markiplier play this
game 12 years ago. And when I watched the trailer,
I'm like, huh, this game looks neat.
It's, it's creepy. It catches my eye.
I completely forgot you played this game.
And I almost never like almost never forget any everything
about a game. There's always something I
remember and the fact that I looked at this, I watched this
trailer like 10 fucking times before I even made the at least
before I even made the connection.
And I'm like, oh, wait, didn't mark a player thing.
Like there's something about a space whale and it took a couple
of look ups and I was like, Oh yeah, off the game I'm like,
what? I have no recollection of this
whatsoever. Small little world.
Yeah. Yeah.
All right, what about you, what you've been doing?
I've been doing a variety of things.
I've been playing lots of games with my wife lately.
We actually got back into Power World.
Yeah, we've been doing Power World on and off and jumping
between. Well, that's right.
You guys have been doing that? Yeah, we've been jumping between
Power World and Monster Hunter Wild and Phaspophobia, and we've
been doing a little bit of a, oh God, my brain just kind of shut
down for a second there. You can do it.
I believe in you, I. Believe in it too, but I'm
trying. Held divers too.
There it is, yeah. God, did we get fucked last
night? It's just the predator strain
the. Fucking dragon dude.
Oh yeah, we we encountered the dragon Roach for the first time
and we weren't ready for it. I personally thought it was like
a a really high end enemy. No, we're playing on a
difficulty 6 and we're all kitted out with our normal kit
for dealing with chargers and bio Titans and stuff and all of
a sudden I look up and I start shouting.
Brandon shouts out. He's like what the fuck is
string? That and I'm like dragon.
That fucking thing it. Wiped us out every time we
encountered it. Just kill it.
I mean, yeah, we killed it a couple times.
Easier said than none. Holy shit it is so fun.
Just it's a dragon yellow foos for a dog or something.
Look at a fucking game, you think this?
This is not Sky. This is not the rim of sky.
It has the Rag dog. I don't like that, Yeah.
I don't know why, but I don't like that.
Because you have to shoot its wings.
Want to do damage? Yeah, it's.
Everything else bounces off and. Then it literally breathes down
fire on top of you. Which I'm not going to lie is
kind of cool how it does it because the fire also is green.
So it's it's pretty cool looking.
It's just Jesus Christ, man, that that hit box.
Yeah, they give you a reference. This is the the dragon Roach.
Because I know you haven't found it yet.
You're going to love that. Jesus Christ.
It's big. It's a flying bile Titan.
Pretty much. God, that scared the shit out of
me 'cause it's like floating over in front of us, my man.
What the hell is that? Like the dragon.
Just like dragon doing a beautiful war cry.
Like Oh my God this is fucked. Yeah.
Oh God. I mean, we were.
Completely derailed everything because we were going fine up
until then. It was, and then everything just
kind of went to shit after that. Yeah.
Dying constantly. Because we got separated, the
swarm would pick us off. It was the swarm or the dragon.
Yeah, that sucked. Like it became instantly the
biggest threat on the battlefield.
Because then on top they got chargers and shit.
You know, chargers and palers and then the the stalker.
What was the Predator stalkers were?
Oh, those suck. Those.
And then the fucking the those towers that the flying, the
scripture towers, scripture towers.
Yeah. They literally I shot down about
7 of them. Yeah, they were so prevalent.
Look what why they're trying to do that and they have a fucking
dragon fucking flying over. In fact, it.
Was on hell mire too. God.
I don't we, we didn't pass any missions.
We we literally ran out of reinforcements every single
fucking time. We couldn't even get through the
beginning of an operation, the first mission in an operation.
Just don't play Hellmeyer. Yeah, actually, yes, actually
you were not wrong. Let it fucking die.
Oh, I I think we've come to the conclusion that we are not bug
divers. I would say we're not bug
divers, we're not bug divers on Hellmeyer.
Yeah. Or, or we could probably use
more experience fighting the bugs before we can really get
confident with them. It's just Hellmeyer is just hard
in general. It's a hard planet.
Yeah. That's the problem.
Like, it's cool until everything's on fucking fire,
Yeah. And you have fire tornadoes that
follow you and like everything on fire.
Yeah, I, I think if we do another bug major order, we're
going to start on five again to really practice them now.
Yeah, I was. I was definitely saying things
while we were playing that I am not happy.
Boy, did I Fair enough. Did I feel a rage in my blood?
I said Emma wasn't helping by throwing down a knee palm
string. Oh.
That's right. She threw one right in front of
us and we're like Oh my God what the fuck it.
But in her defense, it did help though.
It did help it. Actually did kill a lot of them
in front of us. There was a swarm.
It did help so. The last time we played, at
least I played with you guys, we were trying to get off a God
damn planet and it was just revive after revive after
revive. We were waiting a minute or two
or whatever to bring in a person and they would always click the
sample and then fucking die. Yep.
Just going back, the hubris was going back for the sample get.
The samples dies like they they everyone would survive just fine
until they picked up the samples, yeah.
Yeah, but it's funny that if if the game is like this at six.
Yeah. Heavy is the hand.
Was it hell like hell diver like?
What the fuck? How would that be?
Heavy is the head that carries the samples.
I can, I can just see the game at Super hell Diver spawning
like fucking 20 fucking Dragons and shit.
I don't want to see that, but yes.
So for the topic today, we're looking at different innovations
in the industry. Yeah.
Innovative. Innovative, yeah.
So for me more specifically, we've got VR gaming,
cross-platform cloud gaming and AR.
So those are definitely innovations that they have both
good and thanks about that. But do one of you want to go
first? I can go first.
Yeah, Mr. Jeez, you're not bringing your Ethan.
Mr. Ethan, you can go first. I've been dead for how long have
you already forgotten about me? I've moved on to my new best.
Friend. Brandon, he's the new Ethan.
You ginger fuck. Every time I fucking hear that
in the episode it cracks me up. Dude, what do you say it?
I know, Oh my God, that's funny. Anyway, I'm going to start off
with VR. I hope that the innovation of VR
gets better and it will over time.
Like because I remember my first VR, I got I think Christmas last
year, yes. So I haven't had it a year, but
I would love to see a headset that's, you know, like head VR
headset priced not like the vive or anything, not like 1000
bucks, but you know like at least 500 or less.
Yeah right. At most 500 or less.
But this is a price of, well, standard consoles.
Right. Maybe 600 if that, but I got the
metaquest 3. I love it to bits.
I do. I'm not sure if I have the
settings wrong or what but like sometimes it seems like I can.
I don't feel immersed as much as I would love to be granted I
this is my first one. I've never had an Oculus Rift.
I think that was like the first. Yeah.
Yeah. And that one was like a barely
working piece of technology that was pretty much a phone screen
in front of your like tape to your face kind of.
Yeah, but I would like to see more screen 'cause there's
little like eyeball holes that you look through for the screen,
which is fine. But I've also noticed that I see
like outside of that too, like kind of my nose where I just see
kind of overlapping darkness. And I would like maybe for that
to be a part of the screen as well somehow.
And so like, no matter pretty much I can look around with my
eyes and I just see screen, yeah.
Yeah. That's what I would like to see.
So let let's. More, yeah, more immersiveness
is what I would say. But granted it, I can't
complain. It's already pretty damn
immersive. It's pretty impressive how it
also has pastor or whatever, or you can see your room.
Yep. And you can even set the
boundaries realistically. However, however big you want, I
can set my boundary in my room, but also like, I can walk
outside in my room and like, set more boundary for the hallway
into the master bedroom or the bathroom, down the stairs,
whatever. That's pretty insane.
Oh yeah. But there's also like standstill
mode of where if you stand in one spot and you go outside that
spot, then whatever. It also depends on the game.
Yeah. Can can you explain that
boundary a bit more? Is it like it it would detect
the walls of your house or? So you can do that.
There's a, there's a couple ways you can do a standstill mode,
which it'll just be like a solid circle based around your current
position. I think that's the spot.
You can also set your own boundary, but also you can do
like automated boundaries. So you can like look around the
room and like it'll do like a like some geometry, like it'll
like it'll see that. I'll do like a Lidar sensor.
Yeah, it'll, it'll see that tote and it'll like make geometry
around it. And then it'll be like, that's
not the floor, that's a raised surface.
Yeah. If I move this table, this
entire like thing will be there. Yeah.
And like, so when I'm, when I'm doing my, my room, sometimes I
have to move my magic backpack because it's a raised surface
and it'll give me a little bit more space.
Yeah. And then if I pass over it
again, it'll be like like, here's the geometry, like
there's this is something here. Yeah.
But then I move it and I put the headset back on or whatever and
like I go to Passover it again, it'll be oh wait, this is a flat
surface. So it'll add to like the
boundary as well. Interesting.
And the third thing you can do with that custom boundary is
like, you can be like, this isn't exactly what I want.
And you can like kind of paint the floor a little bit and you
can like paint space. And I have gone from my room to
my bathroom and like made like just painted boundary.
Granted, if you get too close to the, to the outer boundary,
it'll like start to get more and more clear until it's eventually
you can just see your surroundings.
Yeah, because you don't want to walk into a wall.
Yeah, yeah. Yeah, it'll like turn, it'll
start to turn red when you're starting to get out of the
boundary. Yeah, 'cause I primarily use the
PSVR 2. Yeah.
Which great headset, but Jesus Christ man, my fucking 4070
cannot handle those lenses on it at full resolution.
Yeah, it's they're pretty nice lenses in that headset.
I will say the the Metaquest 3 has some pretty nice lenses and
I can turn up how the lenses load yeah, but my computer
cannot handle above 100. Sometimes it feels like it can't
even handle 100. It's but think about it.
Sometimes it's just inexplicably doesn't work.
I try to use Steam VR like I can load up whatever I want on it,
but if I use Steam VR specifically, it just doesn't
connect to the games. Yeah, it's weird.
It's like it, it has, it has like 2 screens, like kind of
like like ATV screen or whatever.
And then if I look around like that screen is there, like I'm
looking around in the room, it'll just be there.
Like I'm looking around. It's just darkness.
Yeah, yeah. And like it's trying to like
load and buffer and load and buffer and load.
It's like, can we just work? Yeah.
And like even turning off, like fully off and turning fully back
on the headset doesn't work. I have to fucking trouble and it
pisses me off every time. Probably.
Why can't you just work? Probably the the issue that
you're having with that because I used to use my metaquest like
that wirelessly. If your Internet isn't up to
snuff, you're going to have problems because you're doing a
wireless connection between the headset and your computer.
Yeah, Oh yeah. Because your your headset would
have to connect to your modem, your modem would have to connect
to you your PC and you'll have to deal with the the broadband.
That's. That's probably the broadband
because I. I have either.
Yeah, that's what it. Is bandwidth.
Sorry, I have Ethernet straight to my computer so that's
definitely not the issue. Yeah, no, it's more so that the
when you're using Steam Link wirelessly, it does work, but
you do have issues. I had issues like you have and
that's why I finally got so fed up that I just bought the
fucking cable. Plugged it in and have it
completely wired into my computer yeah and it you know
it's it works yeah. The only thing is with the cable
I got and I showed you that cable Ethan, that that one
unfortunately doesn't charge fast enough it.
Doesn't, but it still extends the lifetime, which I'm fine.
I can, you know, play for four hours and be cool with it.
And you also are completely tethered in.
So those issues you're having shouldn't happen, right?
Because it's not just for charging, it's also for
connecting it to your. Yeah.
Yeah. So it keeps you from having
issues it it's a pain in the ass to have a cable connected to.
It but it really. Is I know it it, but I'd rather
have that than have issues to the point I can't even use the
fucking thing. Yeah, You know, you kind of got
to pick what you get. Yeah, but I'm used to that.
So you know, I know you might not be used to that perfectly.
Fine. God, no.
You know, Yeah, this is the first year I've had VR.
Yeah. But just to kind of make your
life a little easier, that's the way to do it if you don't want
to have issues like that. Yeah, I guess I just kind of
forgot about because I wasn't using my headset for all because
it was too hot to play. Oh.
Yeah. Yeah, because of the summer, but
now that it's cooling down, being no November at all, Yeah,
I can pull out that cable again and.
Yeah, and. Try.
Like I said, I had less issues that way.
It was fun to have it completely wireless, but now that I'm using
the the PSVR that's wired. Yeah.
Yeah. And man, the fuck is nice.
It's just I got to be careful I. Oh trust me, playing the thing
that sucks about my room and also being almost 6 foot is that
with what's it called boxing game I play.
I can't think of underdogs with with underdogs I'm like swinging
my hands all over the place. If I swing too high, I hit my
ceiling fan. So I've tried to move to the
side of my room. Now I punch the wall.
It's like or or my my lamp that I have not even plugged in.
Honestly it doesn't even need to be there but still like where I
punch my. Where your dressers naturally
go. Yeah, my dresser is like, I just
can't win. Yeah.
Do you look at mostly open space for that?
I don't. Know if I told you guys this I I
was I think I was playing blade and sorcery.
It's like this like medieval like pack and slash.
You know you can have fun with or whatever you have magic.
I, I was playing it, I think I was talking to you guys and I
hit my dresser behind me. I hit this water puddle and it
fell behind my fucking dresser. Oh my God, was that fucking
loud. And mind you, it was like 10:30
at night on a weekday. So my parents are asleep at this
time. Where do they sleep?
Because I know the way out of your house.
So where, Oh my God, are they? Across the hall.
Oh, so like quite literally like when you're by like in front of
my door, you know, the bathrooms right here.
On the left. Their room is right there.
Oh no, that's why I have to be quiet, 'cause I'll wake them up.
Yeah, you know, So yeah, that was loud as fuck.
It wasn't as loud for me 'cause of the headphones.
The Brandon, what the fuck? Slamming up in your Get in your
bed right now. My, my dad would be like, man,
can you chill the fuck out, you know, hurry, hurry.
I mean, and rightfully so because, yeah, you know, he's
got to get to work and whatever, you know?
Yeah. He gets up at 4:00 in the
morning, you know. No, my dad's the same way.
Like he'll be like hey, like no, like literally he'll be like hey
and like just leave. And he wouldn't even close my
door. He'll just fucking like, OK, God
damn it, at least close my door, whatever.
There was unrelated, but there was one day where I was being so
fucking loud for so long. And like this was I think the
time I was working at Walmart where I unemployed one of the
two. So I stayed up late and I was
just on the on the Xbox group chat with all my buddies.
Yeah. And he, he forced me to turn off
the console. Oh.
Geez. Oh, went that far?
Yes. Wow.
They turn it off right now. Turn it off.
OK, OK, turn it off. And like, he, he watched me turn
it off before he even left. I'm like, Jesus fucking Christ,
it was bad. That's bad.
It's. Like stay.
I'm not sure if he would have meant to apologize.
He didn't say sorry but he got me winged up so I'm not sure if
that was his way of apologizing. Sounds like it, yeah, yeah.
Like at at that point I don't even fight it.
I'm like I'm kind of in the wrong.
I'm going to yeah, shut off because sometimes it's it's
annoying, but. I mean, I got right back on to
play for like another hour, but I'm just like, God, guys, I'm
not back guys. I'm back.
They gotta be. Quiet.
Let's be quiet. I yeah, I I have not like to see
my dad like that. That's not fun.
Yeah. Most of the time it's like, you
know, hey, you know, whatever. And then he just shuts the door.
Now, if I'm going to continue to do this, then yeah, he's going
to get mad. I mean, you know what I mean?
So it's just, it's one of those things, but I get it.
Yeah, but it yeah. But yeah, that was funny though,
that that was really loud. But they didn't wake up.
I'm like, I was for sure. I'm like, Oh yeah, that will.
I know. This bottle, it makes a lot of
noise. Yeah, like, oh, he's gonna get.
Up and especially when it's full of water, just that loud.
Thud. Oh yeah, it was like it was thud
'cause it hit the wall and the the dresser back so you know,
Yeah. And I'm like, oh, he's going to
wake up. Oh, I know it, I know it.
I fucking know it. Nope, he didn't wake up.
What? You're telling me that out of
everything didn't wake his ass up?
Maybe he did wake up, but he was just like.
I guess like, I, I don't know, it was just really funny.
That hurt though. I bet my my hand hurt like hell.
No. I've I've punched glass like the
fucking nose. Yeah.
And they every single time I was like dung.
I'm like, did I break it or No, no, right.
I would punch the, the bulbs that you put the the pull cord
and that would smash into the glass.
Surprisingly, it hasn't shattered yet.
Good, very good. If it's to the point, if you go
in my room you will see this. I wrapped the the the the pull
cord around like the little whatever's that the lights come
off of so I don't fucking hit them.
So I'm lucky my room, my light is so high up that I can't hit
that. I wish, but it's my dresser
'cause I have smacked my dresser before and I've had my
controller actually pinch my skin while hitting my dresser.
That's odd. That's one hell of a pain, let
me tell you. Yeah, holy shit.
No pinching hurts. That's.
Have you smashed your hand into the shells before?
No, I have not got. Damn.
Anyway, we should probably get back to the top.
Yes, yeah. But no, I have not.
I've not done that luckily. That's surprising because that's
taller than the dresser. Yeah.
Yeah, yeah. Granted, it's not all it's, you
know, some plastic tubs and cardboard boxes.
But that shit would hurt. And if I if I hit that fucking
box a certain way, I'll cut myself.
Yeah. So.
Yeah. So, yeah, I hope you like this
guy. This is what happens when you
play VR games. Well, well, what about you,
Mark? What?
You got anything? No.
OK. Well, I guess Brandon is on to
you then. Damn, just suck his ass.
Damn. God, this poor.
Guy, he always gets in front of you and.
Get in front. Of him.
Oh yeah, he's right. What the fuck?
It's OK. Breath.
Breathe. Tiki tiki.
Tiki tiki, even though my mic didn't pick that up.
You want me to go? Yeah, go ahead.
Yeah, I won. So I'm gonna I want to touch on
AR gaming. I know it's not in order that.
'D be cool though. AR gaming.
Imagine that with VR. Oh yeah, the.
Var Var. Var.
Virtual augmented reality. That would be cool.
I mean. Well, that's kind of has
happened actually with the metaquest.
Anyway, continue. Oh yeah, I'll explain later.
OK no so AR gaming for me the most I played was like Pokémon
Go. Yeah.
And that Five Nights at Freddy's Special Delivery when it was a
thing, it's no longer a thing. You can't play it now.
I I was actually kind of pissed. I'm sure you can find well no,
because it's online, right? It was, yeah, it was.
It was an always online game. Yeah, that's what.
Sucks. I mean, like, I guess a cool
thing like Roblox, somebody actually made the game in
Roblox, like basically one to one, I guess.
But it's not the same, you know? Not, but it's the added problem.
It's on Roblox. Yeah.
But yeah, playing it legitimately on a device like it
was actually pretty fun because you could you tried to get
different animatronics and you'd have to try to stop them from
jump scaring you. Yeah, there's even like
different, different versions that were specific.
Like there was like Shamrock Freddie, he's just green with a
bunch of shamrocks on. There, there was Chocolate
Bonnie. Oh yeah.
For Easter. But they had like, yeah, there
are a lot of reskins. Yeah, there was also like Game
over Chica or high school or one of the two.
Yeah, but they're cool. I mean, they had cool designs,
you know, even though they're just reskins, but still, they
were cool. I.
Think it was even like frosty foxy, like a frosted instead of
like a Jack O Lantern, Yeah. Yeah, and I I think also Bonnie
had a kind of like ice. I think there was, yeah, there
was like a round of them couple. But the the game itself was nice
of fun. I mean, you were trying to
defend yourself from the animatronics.
You had to like, turn around with your phone, whatever,
because you're trying to figure out where they're at.
And the animatronics, they all act differently.
So like Foxy was a pain in the ass because he was fast.
Because. You'd hear him if you had
headphones on, you'd hear him running around you and you have
to try to see where he's at and tase him or shock him because
that's how you win. But basically like Freddie would
be the first one you fight, he he'll like talk to you and shit.
It was fucking weird. You should hold your breath or
some shit. Like it was pretty creepy.
But you kind of turn around with your phone and you're trying to
look for static. That's where they're at.
And once you find the static enough to where it's like holy
shit, the animatronic should start coming after you.
You'll see it's eyes and then once it fully comes out of like
a shadow then you tase it. That's how you win.
Now if you don't win, yeah you get fucking jump scared fnaf.
But what you can do is once you get these guys, you can level
them up and send them to your friends.
OK. So try to see, try to fuck with
your friends and I. Don't know that that's cool.
And then you also had to collect that like remnant stuff to I
think you use that for the animatronics.
I think that's how you level them up.
OK. But yeah, with the the time I
had with it was fun. And the AR game's kind of cool.
I mean, it's, you know, it's they're right there with you.
You know, they're in your fucking house, so to speak.
You know I'm in. Your walls.
I'm in your fucking walls. And also my favorite thing was
when they because you'll have like the map screen that is
literally where your location is.
Yeah, and you'll see the animatronics on the screen and
they get closer to you and once they hit you, you just hear Ding
Dong like a fucking doorbell. Yeah.
And then that's when you that's the notification to tell you,
hey, go after this animatronic or whatever.
Yeah. But you know, it was, it was
fun, a little game, but a little AR game that I really actually
put some time into besides like Pokémon Go.
But that's yeah, I have the AR portion of that turned off
because that drain your fucking battery A.
Whole game drain your battery, I'm sorry.
Yeah, it does. Yeah.
Like I can understand 'cause you're constantly running the
game and it's always updating its location and shit.
Yeah, but the the. AR portion was just it was too
much. Yeah, it's also wonky to work
with too. It can be, yes.
Yeah. Like AR games in general are
kind of Milwaukee. They're also pretty power
intensive. Yes.
And that's what Brandon was. Saying because I I get that
kiss, whatever. I tried doing a Pokémon Go with
my wife. Yeah.
Is that if you have it on AR mode it just kills?
Yeah, that's what we were saying.
Yeah, you're better. Yeah, that's that.
That was the problem that I faced a lot with because I
played it for a good bet and then I kind of got.
Bored. And the Monster Hunter now is a
little better. Yeah.
It's still like kind of dreams your battery, but it's a little
better. I've been like kind of thinking
about trying. That it's completely free.
Just try it. OK, Well we can.
I got. I would think I still have it.
I can still. Have it too, I need to update it
but fuck yeah I'd play. Yeah, I'd get back into play and
that was fun, walking around the woods.
Granted, it's, you know, going to snow.
No worries about it. Because what you is it like,
like Pokémon Go? You go walk.
Around, yeah, you walk around to the different monsters and you
fight with your. Hunting team here.
Let me show you something. Yeah, let me.
So when I click on this you see that Nantic.
Oh my God, it's the same people. Yes, well that's what I'm
assuming is nantic. Maybe not the same people for
the game, but I think what they do is they deal with all the
roads, pathways. I think that's it.
Since since you have who are they?
Who's the other group? That's what I'm assuming.
Oh yeah, Capcom, so I think Capcom deals with the actual
game like plus plus nanantic deals with maybe spawning in the
monsters cause like that's also the same thing with yeah Pokémon
Go on the Pokémon. I could be.
Wrong about that. The geographical right.
Plus there's three different regions.
There's swamp, desert and forest or something like that.
Certain monsters can only spawn in certain locations and there's
like grids basically. Some some areas are bigger, some
areas are smaller, but like each place is random.
It used to like swap like between daily, it'd be like
forest, swamp, desert, forest, swamp, desert.
Now it's just random. So you can get desert like 5
days in a row and it sucks. Yeah, yeah, this.
I'd say try it. It's, it's really fun there.
They added, they added not recently, but they added some of
the elder Dragons from world. OK.
Yeah, a lot of the monsters fought in this are from World.
And they also at some point like even more recent they added all
the weapons because they used to only have like hammer, great
sword, long sword and stuff like that.
Like 5 weapons or so they had sword and shield but now they
have like everything. So like the Dual Blades are?
Yeah. Oh fuck yeah, here we go.
And you actually have to like you, you actually have to go
forward to roll forward and moving one out and like roll
backwards that roll left, roll right.
It's great. Oh, that's all.
See. Wow, you're.
Actually, you actually fight the monster.
Yeah, you you actually do have a combat.
Granted, the the camera's always locked onto the monster.
Oh yeah, fair, but you actually control your person.
You control your person and actually just like, just like,
just like Pokémon Go, you tap the screen to attack.
So with the hammer, you'll do The Big Bang with the 1234 and
then bang Big 5. Oh my God.
OK. Yes, try it out we.
If if just for instance, there is a marshmallow in in Ethan
sales right now. Oh my God.
What marshmallow? What the fuck is that?
It's from Ryze. I can't remember what it's from.
Ryze. I've played Ryze.
Yeah, it's Magda Malo. Let me say that again.
Yeah, it's Magda Malo. No, the marshmallow I know.
The magnum wallow. What the fuck?
Oh, are you talking about a? Yes, it's a cool yaku.
Head but like but it's a cat in it.
Oh, is that your cat? What the fuck?
No, you're talking about that. Oh, what is that?
Oh, it's a monster balloon. OK, that's what that is.
Yeah. I didn't know what the fuck that
was. Oh, yes.
So yeah. Look at that, Brandon.
It's a monster balloon. Oh, that's new season start.
So for back on topic. Yeah, really.
Play Monster Hunter guys, it's fun.
My 2 year anniversary gift. Whoa, whoa.
But yeah, back back on topic. I'll set this up later, but yes,
AR gaming is I I wonder where it's going to go.
You know, I think there is definitely room for improvement
of it, but it's something that's it's just fun with friends and
shit. Yeah, yeah, you know, and now I
mean fucking Monster Hunter. Oh boy, here we go man, how her
kids. It's funny.
I'm someone who I wasn't the biggest fan of Monster Hunter
and now I'm like. It's really fun it.
Fucking. Is once you get into it and you
actually learn the mechanics and put in the effort to learn the
game itself, it's a lot of fun. It's a great gameplay loop.
Yeah, I was going to say, and it's not really super hard to
understand. No, like it's.
It's just a lot of information at once that you have to get
used. To yeah, now I'm just slicing
and dicing shit. But yes, so, OK, now back to
you, Mark. Now it's my turn.
Well, I said this shit. Yes, I just made Meows and I'm
going to add Meows as my Pelico. Yeah, I guess another innovation
to talk about is the more widespread adoption of
cross-platform play gaming. Yes, you know, cross,
cross-platform players, honestly really nice.
Yeah, you know. It is nicely having to buy one
copy of a game in order to play everywhere or not play
everywhere, but to be able to just enjoy time with your
friends. Yes.
That's been a really, yeah, honestly one of the only few
good consumerist, consumer friendly moves that the industry
has been doing lately. And honestly, I can't complain
it. It's been pretty nice.
Like in Destiny, Jack doesn't have to do swap between his PC
and his console. He's just got a boot up on his
PC and he's got everything there.
And yeah, and I are playing on the Xbox, which is quite nice.
We don't longer have to get 2 versions of all of the DLCS each
yes, in order to play either on console or PC.
But just seeing more and more and more gaming companies
consolidate their player bases also pretty nice for them too.
Yes. Because then you only really
have to focus on maintaining your games in one place instead
of oh now we need a separate team for PlayStation support or
a separate team for Xbox support and separate team for Steam
support. And honestly, it seems it seems
like the more that this gets adopted, the easier and easier
it will be for developers to just be able to maintain just
one version of the game. Yeah, it's because I remember
back like the 360 and the PS3, it's like, God, I had friends
that were on both consoles. Yeah.
And it's like trying to you know who who because I mostly had the
PS3. Yeah.
So. Play with me, play with me, play
with me tonight, play with me tonight.
I was like. It's like, fuck, I'm not going
to buy the game again. Yeah, you know.
I did. All my progress is gone, so I
got to do that again. Yeah, that annoys.
Me like, that's why, that's why I had the PlayStation 2 pretty
much grown up, Yeah. And then for some reason we
played the fuck out of the PlayStation two.
I'm not sure why they didn't buy us a PlayStation 3, but they got
an us an Xbox 360. Yeah, I'm kind of glad though.
Yeah. Like, they're both, I mean, at
this point, whatever, PlayStation, Xbox.
But like during the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 area era, Xbox
360 was way better. Yeah, if I'm being honest.
It I yes, I can contest to that because having the PS3 one
having to install the games now, not all of them needed to be
installed, yeah. But it was the first time you
really started seeing it happen. And yeah, that and updates.
Yeah, their updates are really. They took so long to fucking
install. Yeah, like, Oh well, download
then you had to install it. Yeah, true.
And you're waiting for that. And it's funny, I forgot how
much I hated that is the there was a game I was testing with
Patrick and this game's kind of old.
It had like 20 updates or something like that.
And I'm like, I am not sitting here and waiting for this shit.
The game is the game installed or whatever.
You know, it's it is working. Fuck that.
I'm. Not yeah.
I mean, that's what I, that's what I like about Steam, is that
yeah, if a game has 20 updates, it's 1 update.
Yeah, yes. Like whatever.
The PS3, you saw one out of 20. God.
And I'm sitting here like, OK, no.
Yeah, no. So.
Not to mention all the networking security issues that
police station was having at the time too.
And they still kind of have it now.
Still it never got solved. Yeah.
It never really got solved, I mean back.
Then there was groups that was literally just hacking.
Yeah, PlayStation either to like, hey, you better, I'm not
sure, or just to say they could. I don't know.
I don't know. I can't remember.
Also a bunch of a North Korea groups that were hacking into
the PlayStation Network as well. It got it.
Isn't Sony, was it? Is it a jeopardy or is it a
South Korean company? Japanese, I believe.
Yeah, hey Brandy, you want to fight a Diablos A5 star Diablos
with me? You guys, the Monster Hunter
battle, We're in the middle of that episode.
Well, it's Monster Hunter now, so now is the time.
Come on. No, but but for yeah, for
cross-platform play, I'm happy that it it finally became
something. Yeah, me too.
So now you don't have to always be on the same fucking console.
Yeah, right. And granted, PlayStation can
kind of be a bitch about that at times.
Full fuck yeah Jesus Christ with when they wanted to do Minecraft
and all that. Yeah.
God, he was like, he was like pulling teeth.
I'm pretty sure when like even Fortnite was like, hey, can we
have cross-platform on PlayStation?
Yeah, PlayStation. I'm pretty sure even now, like
they pay Sony, Yeah. Oh yeah, that that was a big
pain in the ass for Epic to deal with.
Like, I'm sorry. It's like, why is this such a
fucking problem? Yeah, like you see others are
doing it, you know, Like I get it for security and shit, but
it's like you could put stuff in place.
For that I think their mentality at the time was Xbox is the
cheaper console. If you could play cross-platform
on a system that's cheaper, why would you?
If you're not into the exclusives, you just want to
play games with your friends, why would you go for the much
more expensive console? But at this point, with the way
that the market's been evolving, with the PlayStation Now
dominating console sales and Xbox, he just doesn't even know
if it's going to exist as hardware anymore after this.
It's just. That's the problem.
Who knows what's going to happen but at the time I I really think
their big issue was we'll be outsold buy Microsoft because
why would you pay the premium for the Sony console if you can
just get the same experience on an Xbox for far cheaper?
Well, here's the thing that there's still issues with
cross-platform even today, but the worst is for Xbox people.
Yeah, you can cross-platform to the Microsoft Store on PC.
Yeah. Yeah.
And so like a lot of people think like, man, this is
cross-platform, let's play in Steam and Xbox.
Nope, doesn't work that. Yeah, it doesn't work that way.
No, yeah, it's really weird. I think that's part of the
problem with Microsoft owning Windows and the Xbox service at
the same time. It really is.
I mean, granted, it's also like a developer thing, so ultimately
it's up to them. Yeah, but like just that added
confusion be like, yeah, it is cross-platform, but not to
Steam. Yeah, not to Steam and not to.
But it is the windows like if. It's if it's running on your oh
God, what's the term? It just your own operating
system that you own outright. It's not really cross-platform
like like I, I would consider that it's cross family like it
it, it works well in the Windows family, but cross-platform would
be we're actually working with our competitors to bring the
service to you honestly. I think it'd be nice to have a
different name for it, yeah. It it, it would make a lot more
sense be like, oh, instead of cross-platform is a is a catch
all term. cross-platform is OK. We're actually working with
industry competitors to make sure that the experience is is
appreciated amongst our platform and theirs.
But cross family devices are, oh, it works well on you can
play on any Windows device and then you'll have a clear
understanding of what the intention is there.
But I don't I personally don't see that becoming the case at
all. Yeah, I mean a lot of companies
like their their buzzwords to impress stockholders, so.
Well, there's something I learned and this pertains to
cross-platform play with. So Bethesda has said they want
to do cross-platform for 76. They want to do it.
There's a big roadblock in this. So I so they explained, which I
think is actually kind of nice. They explained how the game
works. Yeah, with its online stuff.
OK. Cuz you know, some companies,
they don't have to tell you shit.
Yeah, cuz. They figure that is like a
proprietary thing. Yeah, so what's funny is, yes,
they are using the same engine as Fallout 4.
Yeah, that's for its gameplay and all of that.
Yeah. It's multiplayer portion is
actually being used from what they use in like Doom
multiplayer. It's was it Zenimax or
something? Yeah, I think.
So they're, they're the ones that do the online portion.
So you got 2 separate engines working in tandem with each
other, which is honestly kind of interesting.
Yeah. But the problem is with trying
to get all of these consoles and more platforms to talk to each
other. They've got to have one kind of
cohesive server. I I guess like they go into a
pretty in depth with this. Right.
I could probably watch it and. I'm.
Sure, condense the information down for you guys.
I'm sure it's pretty complicated.
But they have, you know, servers for all three platforms.
Yeah. So for Steam, for Xbox, for
PlayStation. You.
See the problem here? They want to do it.
They're just trying to figure out how to do it the best way.
Because then you've also got all the information for everybody.
They don't want to start like, you know, trying to do this.
And then information like all your shit that you've got on
your character disappears. Yeah, yeah.
You know, like. They they're really.
Being cautious about it, but they want to do it, they really
do. Oh yeah, they said that they're
hoping they can find some type of solution solution in the
future. It's just right now they're more
focused on content. Yeah, that's that's
understandable. Which is fair because they got
like a lot of things going on. Yeah, I from a limited developer
experience that I have currently understanding that they have
three separate network architectures to handle the the
different systems that they support.
Trying to merge all that is going to be the extremely
complicated, time consuming, and ungodly expensive process,
especially since it wasn't baked in with the in the mind of a
world support cross-platform that wasn't really a thing when
76 launched. That's, that's what it sounds
like. They're kind of kicking
themselves about it, you know, because that's what they said.
They're like, we didn't have this baked in.
Yeah, at lunch. That the amount of technical
debt that they would have to pay off in order to accomplish it is
immense. Deal.
But the fact that they had that they're willing to do it is
pretty surprising. Because they want everybody to
be together. Yeah, that's, that's the whole
thing. And I, I appreciate that.
That'd be kind of. Nice, I also see it from a
practical sense, because then you don't need to have as many
servers running. Yeah, it's just, it's the
manpower. Yeah.
Because honestly. Were they HIPPA?
The layoffs. I think they've had some, yeah,
I don't know how many, but some. But no, like they, they really,
they want to do it, but having the manpower, that's kind of the
issue. The only way they could probably
get it done is if they hired outside help to get it done.
But it's like, now that's more money.
Yeah, but. You need the specialized
experience because it is a very delicate thing.
And it's all proprietary. Yeah.
It's all Bethesda stuff. Yeah.
So I am hoping that, yeah, in the future they'll figure it
out. Yeah.
You know, and like I said, they sound very adamant about it.
So that's good. And the fact that they kind of
came out and said this is kind of what we're dealing with right
now. We're sorry we can't do it right
now, but understand that we are looking at it.
Yeah, you know, to tell you exactly what's going on, that's
it's kind of weird because a lot of companies don't do that.
Yeah, a lot of yeah, a lot of companies are really tight
lipped on it. And I mean kind of rightfully
so. Secrets and shit like.
That. Yeah, secrets make or break you
sometimes. So.
I mean, it's kind of like with underdogs, like they're trying
to do multiplayer whether or not this company sinks because
they're like, yeah, we want to try to do multiplayer, but this
this is a really big gamble because it could end up, you
know, making us just fucking die as a company.
So I mean, big props to them for trying.
And there's they are still going at it.
Yeah. They're still making progress.
Granted, it's like, it looks interesting because the most
recent YouTube short that I watched about it is like that
someone got pushed onto a block and this block was raising up
and is like, oh, no, you don't. You're coming with me and grabs
onto the other dude's arms. And then I think the arms RIP
off. I could be wrong.
Well, it was. It was.
It was. Yeah.
These guys are hysterical. I love that underdogs developers
so much. I wish they knew their their
name, but that's all right. So I mean whenever somebody goes
for multiplayer or even what's it called?
What are we talking about for cross-platform?
People just don't think about it, but it's such a huge thing
to do. It's a big investment.
It's a. Lot of work.
It's not just OK, click a button, now it's online.
Yeah. Even peer-to-peer connection,
even that's a lot. Yeah.
There's a lot that goes on under the sea, under the oh geez.
Under the under the seas under. The cover like that alone is a
very big innovation that even some people struggled to deal
with. Yeah.
Some developers. And I mean, it's just expensive.
Yes, that's, you know, it's. Expensive.
It's complicated. It's.
Kind of crazy how they were able to do in the early 2000s with
like Toontown or Runescape or Wizard one O 1 or World of
Warcraft whatever. Just fucking nuts how they were
able to make such these like these big.
Large MMO. Yeah.
Services. Because I mean, now, nowadays
video games are a lot more expensive, yes, to produce.
And that's, you know, that's a problem because with how
expensive these games get, they flop.
It's a real big, it's a real big problem.
Yeah. But I also want to touch on one
more thing. Or that's where I'm.
Almost at time. Oh, OK.
Cloud gaming. Fucking babies.
I. What?
That's OK. So when I played soccer story, I
played it over cloud. OK.
Oh. Oh God.
Burgers OK. OK, that.
I got very confused there for I was like I was.
Like I didn't care to download something.
Oh, don't try the cloud gaming. And like, it kind of was
horrible, but it also worked too, which was surprising.
It fucking worked. It's it does work, but it's got
a lot of fucking issues that need to be ironed out.
It does. And you have to also understand
that if you're going to do that, you know it's not going to run
like it would if it was just installed.
Oh God. No, you know, and some, some
folks just don't seem to get that.
I have personal reservations against it just because of the
way the streaming industry has gone.
I don't particularly like the fact that if I'm paying for a
game that I have no physical storage over.
Like I, I understand that a lot of games now you're when you're
buying the disc, you're just buying a license to be able to
play it, which is an issue on itself.
I, I hate the fact, yeah, for me, cloud gaming has a
connotation towards like movie and video streaming where you
have the problems of the, the platforms removing content for
numerous reasons. Like if they don't want to pay
the people who made it so they just like, all right, we're
going to remove the content and it never exists in the 1st
place. Or a lot of the anti consumerist
practices that we've been seeing coming out of that industry.
That's sort of the, that's, that's the connotation that I
have with that. But again, like you pointed out,
it is really interesting to see that you can play a fully
fledged game without even having it downloaded on your system
anymore. And and that's the thing, like,
it is nice that you can do that, but I'm kind of more of the
person that like, if I'm going to be playing something, I'm
just going to install it because, you know, that would
suck that I get somewhere in the game and then all of a sudden my
Internet shits, you know, and then now I just lost everything.
Yeah, if I didn't say. Yeah.
Games. Games should not be always
online. They should not.
No, I'm sorry like that. This honestly applies to all
these electronics. Not everything needs to be Wi-Fi
enabled. It's a fucking blender.
Yeah, or Samsung putting ads on their TV's.
Or on their fridges. Or on their fridge, not TV's I
meant. Fridges.
I'm sorry, a fridge should just keep food cold.
That's the whole base. Cubes and dispense.
Watch her. Why does my light bulb need to
be connected to the Internet? That's.
Like what's the? It's a fridge.
It's a fridge. What's next?
My cabinets are Wi-Fi enabled was so I can open the door with
a click of a button on my phone. You can just go over it.
Exactly. I'm a hypocrite because I have
those Wi-Fi enabled bulbs in my room.
Oh God. Which are kind of nice because
you can shut them off with your. I mean the ball OK, the bulbs
are fine like. I I it's still not.
Great, but yeah, it's not the best.
What? Happens when the bulb dies.
You just throw out a whole circuit board then yeah, you
literally throw out just tech that could be used elsewhere.
But it still works to stay and it's.
I I understand the four years, but I just don't feel it myself.
It here's the thing, planned obsolescence and and stuff like
that, there's definitely less planned obsolescence because
they want their stuff to work. Yeah, it's not just a light
bulb. Yeah, yeah.
But like I, I, I, I, I do still have some things that are Wi-Fi
enabled. Very few.
And even then it's most limited and stuff but like.
Like if anything, don't Wi-Fi enable the bulbs, Wi-Fi enable
the fixture? I think they do do that.
Yeah. But but the actual just light
bulbs themselves really. Yeah.
I'm sorry, that's the wrong kind of innovation.
Also some things they don't need to be app connected or an app
like a set up. You don't.
It's a blender again, it's press a button.
Well, I'm good. The thing we we got with last,
well around Christmas last year, yeah, we we needed to get a new
washer and dryer yeah, you know and the ones that we got they're
one of the more expensive ones, but they're on sale and I, I
forgot how much we paid for the both of them but yeah again,
these are Maytag washers that are Wi-Fi enabled Oh, God.
So the thing I will say that is kind of nice with this since our
washer dryer in the basement when you when those are
connected to the to the Wi-Fi in the house, when they're done
doing their thing, they just quickly send you a notification
to your phone and tell you. I understand this is not gaming
industry stuff. No, this is kind of a thing that
I've held on for a little bit, so I'm sorry.
Yeah. Yeah, no, it's.
Also, everything has to have a Jingle now, whether there's a
dishwasher or. The fucking.
Is it every single time you open the dishwasher?
Doo Doo Doo Doo did it. It's.
Like why we're making curb you mean?
That that fucking drives me crazy.
Pretty much no. Literally.
I know our our our washer and dryer have a Jingle when they're
done. Every single time you press a
button, done done, done, done, done done done.
Like just how about? I.
I'm with the light up here, yeah.
I'm going to say this and then we'll wrap it up.
Yeah, this is. It's just this is funny.
Fucking microwaves. OK, yeah.
Why do they all? I'm.
I'm getting this angry video game nerd.
She's saying yeah. So.
We're in silent mode. Why is it that every fucking
time I hit a button, beep, everything beeps, OK?
Everything fucking beeps on the goddamn thing.
You're trying to heat up something at like fucking one
2:00 in the morning because you're fucking hungry and you
don't want to wake everybody else up in the fucking house.
Beep beep beep beep. They should have microwaves for
old Fox. Well, that's, that's what they
engineered around is people who can't see the screen properly
and they're like, Oh well, can't tell if it actually inputted or
not. I hate microwaves.
I don't mind the beeping when you press a button sometimes,
very rarely doesn't get annoying.
It's more so like the at the end when it's like beep.
Beep, beep Yeah. Like your food is done.
I'm like, can you just like? It's like you're, you're not
going anywhere. You're just no.
You're not. You're putting it for maybe 5
minutes. And if even then, if you're
putting it for 5 minutes, you're baking or cooking or something,
Yeah, like you're gonna be in the kitchen doing something
else. Yeah, and it's like this fucking
thing's beeping at you. You can look at it wrong, it
beeps. Yeah, if you give it the finger,
it beats. We got off.
We got off video games there, yeah.
Worth it? Yeah, this is my episode.
Damn it, we're gonna get off topic with this.
My thoughts are because Emma and I live on our own with a
roommate, I don't really care anymore.
I wish I could have. That I I pay money to live here.
I'm going to let it beep if I wanted to, and if people have
problems with it they'll bring it up to me.
How about the say or just don't come over, you know?
I'm the same way. I'm just like, I'm just gonna
put my food. I'm just like, I'm gonna put my
food in, eat my food, be happy and go to bed.
If somebody has a problem with that, I will apologize and be
like, all right, well, I'll try to be a little bit quieter, but
it's, it's just a fucking microwave.
Yeah, and, and a lot of the times you also don't really pay
attention to it. You just, you're just hungry.
That, that, that. Yeah, just food, OK.
But yeah, how about the microwaves?
Man, They're great. We've we've straight so far from
gaming let's. Let's.
But this is still technically an innovation.
It is. Microwaves were innovative.
Yeah, yeah, I can't wait to play fucking Battlefield 76 on This
is my Smart microwave. You can.
Play You can play Skyrim on the Alexa so.
There you go. You're waiting for your food to
cook. You're just on the the touch
